I've always liked reading and watching science fiction and fantasy. There's something majestic about seeing grand displays of wizardry, or giant spaceships exploring the vast unknown darkness of space. So I've decided to try my hand at writing science fiction and fantasy, with a nod to realism. Not all protagonists will be white males. I want to let people of color shine for once, and since I'm an American-born-Chinese, or ABC, I've decided to write my first science fiction book from the perspective of a Chinese-American.
I've learned a little bit of Chinese martial arts, and though I'm a beginner, I try to inject that into my writing in the hopes that it will make it more realistic. But keep in mind, writers need to know so many different subjects, so it's impossible to perfectly write every character's job, such as a medic or spaceship captain. But I will do my best.
My science fiction influences are Ender’s Game, the Stargate series, Star Wars, the Koban series by Stephen Bennett, the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson, and the first six books of the Earthrise series by Daniel Arenson.
I have a BA in American Multicultural Studies, speak Chinese and English, as well as a smattering of Spanish and Burmese, and helps me flesh out alien cultures in my work so that they are unique and have believable motivations and backstory.
You can follow me on Twitter to hear about my upcoming book releases, and you can also follow me on Goodreads. I like to review every single book I read so that every author gets more exposure. Hopefully more people will buy a book based off my reviews, or not, if a book isn't written well.
